New 2019 Silverado Design: New Features and a Lightweight Build

The Silverado 1500 is one of the most popular trucks in the industry, which is why the new 2019 model year is causing quite a stir. Truck enthusiasts couldn’t be more excited about the 2019 Silverado design, a revamped truck that promises to impress on multiple levels. Here at Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, we couldn’t be more excited about the new truck.

According to Chevy, the 2019 Silverado will have the most functional bed of any comparable full-size truck currently on the market. The new pickup will also be 204 kilograms lighter than the 2017 model year. Plus, with added trims and features, the Silverado will be truly versatile.

“With the all-new Silverado, we’ve taken the best truck on the road and made it even better,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors executive vice president of Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “It has a longer wheelbase, more passenger and cargo volume, and yet, thanks to our mixed materials strategy and mass reduction expertise, the new truck is 450 pounds (204 kilograms) lighter than the current model.”

The Silverado will have best-in-class cargo volume thanks to a new bed, one that has a high-strength steel floor and added tie downs. There will be a class-exclusive power up/down tailgate, and task lighting will make it easier to work at night or in low visibility. The Silverado 1500 is also slightly longer than the previous model. Weight savings improve performance while also helping to improve efficiency and handling.

Auto-Related New Year’s Resolutions for You and Your Car

For most people, coming up with a New Year’s resolution can be difficult. That’s why we at Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac have created a list of tips for New Year’s resolutions to ensure that your new 2018 vehicle lasts. From changing the oil regularly to avoiding speeding, there are a few things you can do to be a better car owner and driver.

  • Keep up with routine maintenance: According to Green Living, this is one of the most difficult things for owners to remember. This includes oil changes every three to five months and regular inspections. Skimping on oil changes may not have an immediate effect, but it can have drastic effects on your vehicle down the road.
  • Budget: It’s difficult to get regular maintenance and repairs sometimes, especially if you don’t have the money. That’s why it’s important to set aside a little money from each paycheck for potential auto repairs. Even if it’s just $10 a month, that can add up over time to help make expenses less of a burden. With money on hand for repairs, you’re more likely to fix your car when needed.
  • Clean out your car: Get a fresh start by emptying out all the junk in your trunk and cleaning out all of the garbage beneath the seats. Don’t forget to detail the inside and give the outside a good wash, especially if your car has been through salt or snow.
  • Take it somewhere new: Treat yourself to a fun road trip with family or friends in 2018 by driving your car to a new place. It could be in your own city, it could be another province, or it could even be down to the States.
  • Drive the speed limit: This is tricky for some people, but exceeding the speed limit is not only unsafe, but it also reduces fuel economy. If you want to save gas, avoid harmful emissions, and be safer on the road, try not to speed when driving. Plus, speeding rarely improves your time of arrival; for most drivers, speeding is just a bad habit and nothing more.
  • Stop texting and driving: If you have this habit, it is likely the worst that you have. Prioritize the safety of everyone on the road by putting your phone down.

If you want to start off the New Year with a new 2018 vehicle, stop by Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac to see everything General Motors has to offer.

Gan Chev Giving: December In Review

If you follow us on social media, you will know that December kept us busy! All month long we have been giving away prizes to our valued customers and giving back to our wonderful community. We filled our days with fun online contests and got out to support many local organizations. If you missed our social media posts, here is a little summary to let you know some of things we were up to in December.

We started out the month by helping a family reclaim their family room! The winner of our tire storage contest had been storing the tires for her Chevrolet Cruze in her basement family room. Not only did we pick up her tires and store them for the winter for her, we surprised her by showing up with an added bonus, a board game! Now that she doesn’t have to store her winter tires in her family room, she can use the room to play games and spend time with her family.

Our Gan Chev service department donated some awesome prizes to help us thank our valued customers. We gave away 2 free oil changes, a gift certificate to have a vehicle detailed, a $100.00 service credit and 2 sets of Kingston Frontenac Tickets. We had lots of fun reading everyone’s Facebook comments and looking at all the kindness selfies that were posted on our Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to all of our winners.

Our favourite part of December was all the good deeds we accomplished in our community. We started out with warming the heads and hands of the 2 elementary schools in Gananoque. Our Christmas Elf Dale delivered a bag of winter hats and mittens to both schools this month. Now on cold winter days kids who don’t have mitts or a hat, or forgot them at home will be able to keep warm at recess! We also donated some grocery store gift cards to our food bank. The gift cards were purchased from our 2 local grocery stores, Baldree’s No Frills and Metro. The staff and volunteers at the Gananoque Food Bank can use the gift cards to purchase fresh produce, meat and dairy for their clients. Not only does the Gananoque Food Bank service their clients all year long, but every year they provide a full Christmas dinner to all their clients. We were happy to have helped out this organization in a small way.

We also reached out to Carveth Care Centre here in Gananoque to see if there were any events we could help out with for their residents. We were so happy to provide a driver and a vehicle from our loaner fleet one evening in December to take some residents on a tour of lights around Gananoque. This is an annual event that Carveth organizes for their residents using the Wheels of Care Bus. The bus can seat 6 residents and 3 wheelchairs. Because of our 2017 Chevrolet Traverse 3 more residents were able to enjoy this evening out touring the Christmas lights around Gananoque.

These are just some of the ways we gave back to our customers and community this December during our month of giving. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to see what we have planned for the new year. Happy New Year!

Our Dealership History

Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac has been serving the community for over 40 years! Here at Gan Chev we are all about the service, offering quality vehicles, affordable pricing, and a friendly atmosphere. Opened as Gananoque Motors in July 1976, the dealership has been going strong ever since. We love being a part of our community here in Gananoque.

Gananoque Motors, known around town as Gan Chev, was opened by Dewey Hall in 1976. Anyone who knew Dewey in his teen years may have guessed that cars might play a role in his career. Dewey, like many teens in the sixties spent his time “playing hockey, chasing girls and working on cars”. He even landed himself a job as a pit crew member at the old Kingston Speedway.  After a hockey injury Dewey went on to work as a prison guard, house painter, and insurance salesman. It wasn’t until Dewey started work at a Ford dealership and managed a Chevy dealership that he landed on a career that would interest him for the rest of his life.

The Hall family has been deeply involved in the success of the dealership every step of the way. Sharon, Dewey’s wife, worked side-by-side with her husband to open the humble one-car showroom in 1976. Their son Jamie worked as a car washer and studied automotive marketing in college and is now Director of Operations.  Dewey and Sharon’s other son Jeff also worked in service and parts, helping to provide unparalleled service. In short, the whole family is invested in the dealership’s success.

One of the keys to success here at Gan Chev is our commitment to service. With a reputation for high quality and great prices, we make maintenance and repairs stress-free. For years we have been known for our pick up and drop off service, a convenience that we are happy to offer to our valued customers.  A large portion of business is from repeat customers or through referral—evidence of the truly extraordinary service we strive to offer.

Another important accomplishment for us is our commitment to the Gananoque community. Our dealership has a history of charitable donations and sponsorships to organizations like local hockey teams, festivals, tournaments, and the Thousand Islands Playhouse. We have also sponsored charity golf for organizations like “Almost Home,” raising tens of thousands of dollars for those in need. We’re invested in the community and proud to support local causes.

These are just some of the many details about the history of Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac. Although we’ve been through our fair share of ups and downs, we’ve also worked hard to become a dealership that the community can rely on. Get a Grip: Buy Winter Tires for Added Safety

buy winter tires

Why should you consider winter tires? There are several reasons drivers opt for winter tires every year, all of which have to do with handling and safety. While it may seem like a hassle to change out your tires on an annual basis, there are serious benefits to having winter tires that every driver should consider before hitting the road.

One of the best reasons to buy winter tires is for their thick tread. Winter tires are made to give you grip on slippery surfaces like ice and snow and can also increase stopping power. Plus, the tread on winter tires is designed with special grooves to divert water and prevent hydroplaning—one of the many dangers on the road this winter.

Another reason to buy winter tires is that they are made with a special rubber. Rubber materials tend to become hard and inflexible in cold weather, but winter tires are built to resist especially cold climates. That means you’ll get better handling and even get a reduced risk of blowouts or punctures.

Many areas in Canada offer incentives for having winter tires, such as insurance and financing discounts. For example, if you get insurance through a private company in Ontario, you may be entitled to a discount. Stop by Gananoque Buick GMC Cadillac to get winter tires today.

Winter Car Prep: Top 3 Things to Do Before Fall Ends

Now that fall is here, it’s important to start thinking about winter car prep. While most drivers might be tempted to wait for the weather to get cold, it’s necessary to start your preparations while the weather is still holding up. At Gananoque Chevy Buick GMC Cadillac, we’ve provided a list of tips on winter prep to keep you ready for the snow and ice.

winter tires for canadian snowy winter

According to Wheels, one of the best investments you can make as a Canadian is in winter tires. These tires have a softer rubber compound that allows them to get a better grip in freezing temperatures or on icy pavement. They also have special channels to divert water and deep tread for traction.

car battery service testing

Next, have your battery tested by a professional. The winter can be especially hard on electronic systems, so it’s important to make sure you’re getting a good charge. If your battery is older than five years, you should consider replacing it (even if it’s still getting a decent charge). Without a battery, you could get stranded.

vehicle emergency preparation kit

Finally, pack an emergency kit. You never know if your car will break down, so pack supplies like a first aid kit, flares, a blanket, candles, matches, water, and a folding shovel. It’s also a good idea to check the air in your spare tire to ensure it’s still inflated. These are just a few of the things you can do to prepare for the cold weather.

Things to Do: Gananoque Fall Activities

There are several Gananoque fall activities to explorer in the upcoming months. With a new Chevy, Buick, GMC, or Cadillac, it’ll be easier than ever to explore you community. You can take a helicopter tour, a boat trip, or see the local brewing company. Regardless of your preferences, you’re bound to find something you enjoy this fall in Gananoque.

helicopter tour of 1000 isles canada

According to Visit 1000 Islands, one of the most memorable ways to experience the 1000 Islands is to see it from above. There are numerous locations where you can take a planned tour or custom charter along the region, and you van even get a high-definition video of your trip. With the changing leaves, the tour is bound to be unforgettable.

For those who are afraid of heights, you can tour the islands on a short cruise. There are themed cruises for people who are interested in specific excursions, but each boat tour comes with food services and special events. You can get up close and personal on these boat tours, seeing the vibrant colours and still waters along the 1000 Islands region.

brewery brewing company

Finally, visit the Gananoque Brewing Company. Housed in the Bell Tower mall—a historic building constructed in 1860—the Brewing Company has a special tour of the facilities, a tasting flight, samples, and more. Just be sure to get a designated driver if you plan on drinking.

The helicopter tours, boat rides, and the brewing company are three of the top things to do in Gananoque this fall.

Plan Your Visit: Things to Do in Kingston, ON

As Canada’s first capital city, Kingston is known throughout the country. There’s tons to do in the area, whether you love historical events or family friendly activities. Regardless of what you’re looking for, there’s something for everyone in Kingston, ON.

One of the top things to do in Kingston is to stop by Fort Henry. Built during the War of 1812, this fort is located on the water overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this place has reenactments that any history buff can enjoy.

If you’re in the area, you must take a Thousand Islands boat tour. This extensive archipelago is a natural wonder, offering scenic views and unparalleled kayaking. If you’re looking for a fun way to relax with the family, sign up for a boat tour near Kingston.

Finally, check out the Kingston Public Market. Since 1801, the market has been providing a spot for vendors to sell produce, flowers, crafts, and more. The Wolfe Island bakery is well known for its fares, but there’s a whole list of products you can find at the Ontario’s oldest market still in operation.

These are just some of the many fun things we here at Gananoque Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac recommend. Plan your trip today.
